When to Keep Your Child Home from School

At Colchester Public Schools, we understand that deciding whether your child is too sick to come to school can sometimes be a tough call. Your child’s health and the health of our entire school community is very important to us.
If your child is not feeling well, please use the guide below and contact your healthcare provider for advice.

Your child should stay home if they have any of the following symptoms:
  • Fever of 100°F or higher
  • Chills or body aches
  • Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
Important reminders:
  • Children should not come to school after being given fever-reducing medicine such as Tylenol, Motrin, or Advil.
  • A child must be fever-free (without medication) and free from vomiting or diarrhea for at least 24 hours before returning to school.
  • Sending a child to school when they are sick can delay their recovery and spread illness to others.
Thank you for helping us keep all of our students and staff healthy and safe!
